Introducing Operation: Resource Ready

A veteran may know help is available and still have no idea where to begin. Benefits questions, educational opportunities, housing concerns, and other challenges rarely arrive one at a time. Finding the right person to talk to can make all the difference.

That is why the Indiana American Legion is launching Operation: Resource Ready, a series of community events that will bring trusted information and connections directly to veterans, servicemembers, dependents, survivors, and their families.

Our goal is to make it easier for veterans and families to find the help they need and know what to do next. By bringing American Legion-accredited service officers and trusted community partners together at local events, we can answer questions, help people understand their options, and connect them with support. We also want to learn where needs are going unmet so we can build stronger connections in each community we visit.

Each event will combine an educational workshop with opportunities to meet service officers and community partners. Attendees can learn about VA benefits, educational opportunities, housing assistance, and other services available in their community. Events will also share crisis prevention resources and information about Be the One, the American Legion’s #1 mission focused on preventing veteran suicide. When someone needs more help than we can provide that day, we aim to connect them with the right person for follow-up.

A Statewide Effort

Our first two events are only the beginning. We are adding events across Indiana, with the goal of holding an Operation: Resource Ready event in every American Legion district by July 2027. Working district by district will help us bring resources closer to veterans and families while building partnerships that reflect each community’s needs.

The Legion Family’s Role

The Legion Family has a vital role in making this work. You know your communities. You know the veterans who may never see an online announcement but will listen when a fellow member says, “You should come to this.”

Posts, Auxiliary units, Sons of the American Legion squadrons, and Legion Riders can help by sharing event information, inviting veterans and families, connecting us with local organizations, and volunteering at events. As we plan events in additional districts, we will also need local insight into which services and partners should be at the table.

• Saturday, October 24, 2026, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: District 2, American Legion Post 492, 4929 State Road 43 N, West Lafayette, IN 47906.

• Saturday, November 14, 2026, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: District 11, American Legion Post 64, 601 S. Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46241.
  

We will share registration information and announce additional dates and locations as they are added around the state.

Please help us spread the word. Invite a veteran or family member, share an upcoming event, connect us with a community partner, or volunteer when Operation: Resource Ready comes to your district.

We are also seeking financial support to bring this program to communities across Indiana. Gifts and sponsorships will help us host events, provide resource materials, and reach more veterans and families with the assistance they need.
