Emergency Resolution 2020E01 for DEC Action
The American Legion, Department of Indiana has recently received guidance from the National Headquarters of The American Legion via Resolution #3 cancelling the National Convention and extending the current national officers through the next membership year. Resolution #3 passed the NEC 60-0 with one abstain.
The Indiana Legion has proposed similar action via emergency resolution 2020E01 copied below. This resolution was drafted to mirror Resolution #3 (Exhibit A below) passed by the National Executive Committee last week. (See the Department Adjutant's message from Friday, April 10, 2020 here.)
National Resolution #3 cancelled the National Convention and called for all current officers to stay in place for the next membership year. The resolution’s second to last resolving clause recommends that the Departments, SAL and Auxiliary follow suit by cancelling Department Convention and keeping our Department Officers in place.
Department Resolution 2020E01 maintains the continuity of the National resolution. It proposes the cancellation of Department Convention and maintains the current officers of the Department for the next membership year. And, as the National resolution recommended the Departments follow suit, this resolution also recommends that the Districts, Posts, Units, Squadrons and Chapters do the same.
This resolution received unanimous support from the Department Commander's Advisory Committee as referenced in the final WHEREAS clause of the document available for you to view and download below.
