Swearing in of Department Adjutant Chad Woodburn

Chad T. Woodburn, a United State Marine Corps veteran with additional service in both the Army and Air National Guard, was sworn in as Adjutant of The American Legion, Department of Indiana during a brief Executive Committee ceremony January 16, closing out the Department’s 2022 Midwinter Conference and ending a months’-long search.

In appointing Woodburn, Department Commander Mark Gullion said “I am prepared to recommend to the DEC an outstanding Legionnaire from the Department of Illinois – who grew up in our own Department – to take on the challenges inherent in the office of Department Adjutant. I believe my candidate is superbly qualified.”

Woodburn is a 31-year member of The American Legion. In addition to his work with the Department of Illinois, he also has served as an Indiana State trooper, an arson investigator for the Indiana State Fire Marshall, and as the Director of the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Emergency Management Agency with a wealth of management and supervisory experience.

Before joining the staff at the Department of Illinois, he held many positions in Newburgh, Indiana’s Post 44 and the 8th District. Currently, he is a member of Brownsburg’s American Legion Post 331.
