Hello 6th District, I'm Roy Dowell out of Terre Haute Post 346 and will be your District Commander for the year 2019 - 2020.

I am looking forward to working with each and everyone in the district and hoping to get more of your posts involved in the district. We are here to help you. I am retired military, six years of my career was with the United States Army with one tour of duty in the Republic of South Vietnam 1968 -1969, 16 years were spent with the Indiana Air National Guard's 181st Fighter Wing out of Terre Haute, Indiana.

I have four beautiful children, two boys, and two girls and have seven grandchildren. I have served as your Executive Vice Commander for the last two years under the tutelage of Commander Culp and other past commanders of the district. I have a sense of what is involved with being District Commander, but the scope of it will be revealed in time I'm sure. There will be some changes coming soon that should benefit many members, and membership will continue to be a challenge for every post within the district. I will encourage the use of mylegion.org as a handy membership tool and will assist any post that wants to use the web site. Membership is not a single person's obligation; the life of our organization depends on it.

I learned at the 101st Department Convention that for the first time, in 19 years, we achieved 100% Officers Certification within the Department. Our district Certified Post Report (CPR) was 97% this year, that is the highest years. Next year I am sure we can reach 100%. I am anxious to get out in the District and visit many of your posts and join in your meetings. I am here to assist you and look forward to the challenges that lay ahead.
