Message from Department Adjutant John Crosby
The American Legion, Department of Indiana has recently received guidance from the National Headquarters of The American Legion via Resolution No.: 3 cancelling the National Convention and extending the current national officers through the next membership year. The Indiana Legion is currently in the process of proposing similar action.
This action should be reported to you by the middle of next week. This action will include guidance and recommendations to Districts, Posts, Units, Squadrons and Chapters on how to move forward this year in reference to nominations, elections for officers and delegates, upcoming programs, awards and the Department Convention. In the meantime, the Indiana Legion should remain in a holding pattern during these unprecedented times.
Monitor the department website at www.indianalegion.org for updates, announcements and aid programs that continue to be released to combat the economic effects of shutdowns due to COVID-19.
Posts will continue to be effected due to this shutdown. An inventory of all Post status are in the works. Remember, The American Legion is not the bar or canteen. While our bars are in some form of shutdown, our American Legion continues to make an impact in our communities across the state. If your post or district are working to bring stability and resources to your communities, please share this information with Department Headquarters at email@example.com.
In reference to Close of Books, the event has been cancelled due to the at-risk demographic of our veterans whom reside at the Indiana Veterans Home. A decision will be made no later than May 1, 2020 as to whether this event can be safely administered at Department Headquarters on the regularly scheduled date of June 7, 2020, or if a mail-in will be the safer option. Standby for this announcement as well.
I hope that each of you and your families are safe and healthy and have a Happy Easter. Information will continue to be compiled for you to view and share via the Department Website News page at www.indianalegion.org/news.
The American Legion,
Department of Indiana Adjutant
Together, we change lives for Veterans, their families and their communities.
