The American Legion, Department of Indiana Family closed the books on the 2015-2016 membership year on Sunday, June 5, at the Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette, Ind. Legionnaires, Sons of the American Legion and the Auxiliary turned in their final membership cards from their respective districts and visited with the veteran residents there. The Department of Indiana supports and donates to the Indiana Veterans Home which was established in 1896. The American Legion Family donated $3,700 during Close of Books. Legionnaires also donates fireworks for the residents to hold their own fireworks show every Independence Day. Congratulations Detachment Cmdr. Chris Carlton and the Indiana Sons of the American Legion for finishing at an all-time membership high! As of close of books, they finished at 100.45%, with 37,793 members breaking the previous all-time record of 37,756. Madam President Ruth Rairdon and the Auxiliary narrowly won a friendly competition with Department of Indiana Cmdr. Larry Lowry on gaining new membership. The Auxiliary finished with 3,778 new members over the Legion which finished with 3,739. A close competition. Overall, the Auxiliary finished with 43,041 members, 82.26% of their goal of 55,830. Finally, the Department of Indiana finished with 81,251 members at 92.86% of their goal of 87,500. |
